Many of the computer programs we will examine assume the functions of what were formerly separate hardware devices: MIDI-controlled synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, effects units and multi-track sequencers. We will also discuss musical and technological milestones of the 20th century that helped shape the opportunities available to us today.
